The symphonic metal giant Nightwish and Joensuu-based microbrand watchmaker Pook Watches have joined forces to create a wristwatch that pays homage to the soulscape of the Nightwish Yesterwynde album.
Collaborations between music bands and watch brands are nothing new globally — many international artists, from AC/DC to The Beatles, have partnered with renowned watchmakers to create their special editions. In Finland, however, such partnerships are rare, which makes the cooperation between Pook and Nightwish particularly noteworthy.

From the Beginning of Time
Although the newly released watch carries the name of Nightwish’s Yesterwynde album, the story of this collaboration goes much further back. Pook’s watchmaker Jani Ikonen and Nightwish’s Tuomas Holopainen both grew up in Kitee and have known each other since their youth. Music played an important role in both of their lives, and in their younger years they even played together in the same band — until their paths diverged toward their respective careers.
The seed for this project had been planted long ago, but it materialized when Tuomas read about the ancient Greek Antikythera mechanism — a 2,000-year-old invention, a mechanical device capable of calculating planetary movements, eclipses of the sun and moon, and more. Today, it is considered the world’s first known analog computer.
The Antikythera mechanism fascinated Tuomas deeply, making it a natural choice as the inspiration for this watch project. It also became the theme of the third track on the Nightwish 10th studio album Yesterwynde covering the deep and eternal topics of time, the universe, and humanity.

Full of Surprises
The Pook X Nightwish Yesterwynde watch stands apart from many other band collaborations by refusing to scream “fan merchandise.” This restraint is exactly what makes it so intriguing. Too often, similar projects simply slap a band logo onto an existing watch model, resulting in something uninspired and predictable.
Instead, the Yesterwynde watch dares to be bold and original. Its design is built around the Antikythera mechanism, with gears and mechanics prominently displayed in an open-heart style dial. For example, the position normally reserved for the small seconds hand is taken up by a gear reminiscent of the ancient mechanism, bringing the movement palpably to life.
The overall aesthetic is steampunk-inspired and vintage-tinged, confidently independent yet filled with subtle, carefully considered nods to Nightwish’s world—hidden Easter eggs waiting to be discovered by sharp-eyed fans.
One of the most fascinating details can be found in the strap: it includes an additional link made from a microphone stand once used on Nightwish’s tour, meaning each watch carries a literal piece of the band’s history.
Daily wearer
Despite its daring design and unique details, the watch is technically reliable and well-suited for daily use. Its 41mm case features a screw-down case back and crown, providing 100 meters of water resistance. The double-domed sapphire crystal offers excellent scratch resistance while giving the watch a refined profile.
At its heart beats the Miyota 82S7 automatic movement, a somewhat rarer variant designed for open-heart watches. It provides small seconds and a 24-hour subdial, while sharing much of its base construction with Miyota’s well-known 8000 series. True to the family, its rotor winds briskly — and can occasionally be heard in action.

All in all, the Pook X Nightwish Yesterwynde wristwatch is an original and fascinating creation that combines Pook’s technical reliability with a bold design inspired by Nightwish’s album.
